Ian Martin

Mr. Martin joined Berkshire Capital in 2010. He has over 25 years experience in the investment management, superannuation, investment banking and financial services sectors, both in Australia and globally.  He is a former CEO and Chief Investment Officer of the BT Financial Group (a prominent Australian investment management and financial services firm) and Head of Global Investment Management and member of the Management Committee of Bankers Trust.  He was also the Inaugural Chairman of what is now the Australian Financial Services Council (which is the investment, life insurance, superannuation and financial services sector industry association in Australia).  He has recently been a Panel Member of the Superannuation System Review (The Cooper Review), a committee established by the Australian Federal Government to review and recommend ways to improve Australia’s superannuation system.  The Committee presented its Final Report to the Government on 30 June 2010.

Early in his career Ian also spent nine years in various positions with the Australian Treasury, Canberra, and two years at Citibank as its Australian Chief Economist. He holds an Honours Degree in Economics from the University of Adelaide, an Advanced Diploma from the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and has completed advanced short courses in investment management at London Business School and AIMR/Princeton University.  Ian is Chairman of Argo Investments Limited (ASX:ARG) and a member of the Russell Investment Group Australasian Advisory Council.  He is also Chairman of Sydney’s Wayside Chapel Foundation.  “The Wayside” is renowned for its work with homeless, mentally ill and socially marginalized in inner Sydney.



Berkshire Capital is exempt from the requirements to hold an Australian financial services licence under the Australian Corporations Act in respect of the financial services it provides.  Berkshire Capital is regulated by the SEC under US laws, which differ from Australian laws.
